Work out your CGPA on the standard 10-point scale in seconds. Six calculators on this page cover semester-wise CGPA, converting SGPA to CGPA, CGPA to percentage (with VTU, Anna University and KTU formulas), CGPA to marks, and bridging between CGPA and GPA.
CGPA — Cumulative Grade Point Average — is how most Indian universities report your overall academic performance, on a scale that usually runs from 0 to 10. It's built up from your SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) each term, and most colleges, recruiters and further-study applications will ask you to also state it as a percentage at some point — which is exactly where things get inconsistent, since different universities use different conversion formulas.
The six tools below cover the full cluster: working out your CGPA directly from subject grade points, converting semester SGPA into an overall CGPA, converting CGPA to and from percentage using your specific university's formula, bridging between CGPA and a 4.0-scale GPA, and converting CGPA into actual marks out of a total.
Add each subject's credit and the grade point you scored (out of 10) to get your semester or overall CGPA calculator result — works for engineering, science or any program graded on a 10-point scale.
| Subject (optional) | Credit | Grade point (0–10) |

Enter each completed semester's SGPA to get your overall CGPA — the most common way to track SGPA to CGPA progress across a degree. Switch the toggle for the reverse: CGPA to SGPA target.
| Semester (optional) | SGPA |

Convert between CGPA to percentage and percentage to CGPA using your university's own formula — pick it from the dropdown, or enter a custom multiplier.
Branded formulas for VIT, SRM, KTU, VTU and Anna University vary further by regulation year — always cross-check against your official exam handbook for anything submitted formally.
Bridging between a 10-point CGPA and a 4.0-scale GPA — useful for study-abroad applications. This CGPA to GPA conversion is a straight scale conversion; switch the toggle for GPA to CGPA.
This is a simple proportional scale conversion (CGPA/10 = GPA/4). Many US universities use WES or an official evaluation service instead — check what your target institution accepts.
Need your CGPA expressed as marks out of a specific total (for a scholarship form or job application)? This CGPA to marks tool applies your CGPA's percentage to any total you enter — toggle for the reverse marks to CGPA direction.
CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the average of the grade points you earn across all semesters, and it is the standard grading measure in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh — usually on a 10-point scale. Universities and employers use CGPA to judge academic performance at a glance.
The most common conversion (used by CBSE) is: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 8.2 converts to 77.9%. Note that some universities use their own conversion formula, so always check your institution's rulebook.
You can also compute CGPA in Excel or Google Sheets: list your semester GPAs in a column and use =AVERAGE(A1:A8) for 8 semesters. For credit-weighted CGPA, use =SUMPRODUCT(grades, credits)/SUM(credits).
On the 10-point scale, 8.0 and above is generally considered good, and 9.0+ excellent. Requirements vary by university and employer.
Multiply your CGPA by 9.5 (the CBSE formula). Example: 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%.
GPA covers a single semester; CGPA is the cumulative average across all semesters of your degree.
Yes — use =AVERAGE() for a simple average of semester GPAs, or a credit-weighted formula for a precise result.
Your subject-wise CGPA runs on a credit-weighted average, same principle as GPA but on a 10-point scale:
When you only have semester-level SGPA figures rather than subject-level grade points, the SGPA to CGPA tool above averages your semesters (equally, or credit-weighted if you enter credits) to get the same result without re-entering every subject.
For percentage conversion, the general formula used across most Indian universities is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5, though VTU, Anna University and KTU each apply their own variation — the CGPA to Percentage tool above has all three built in.
Average your semester SGPA values — equally weighted if each semester carries similar credits, or credit-weighted if they differ significantly. Use the SGPA to CGPA tool above for an instant result.
The most common general formula is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Several universities — VTU, Anna University, and KTU among them — use their own slightly different formula, all available in the CGPA to Percentage tool above.
7.0 and above is generally considered good, 8.0+ is strong, and many top recruiters or postgraduate programs look for 8.5+. Requirements vary by institution and industry, so check your specific target's stated cutoff.
A simple proportional conversion is CGPA ÷ 10 × 4 = GPA, available in the CGPA to GPA tool above. Many US institutions ask for a WES or official credential evaluation instead of a self-calculated conversion — check your target school's requirements.
Yes — VTU commonly uses Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, which differs from the general ×9.5 formula. Select "VTU" from the university dropdown in the CGPA to Percentage tool above to apply it automatically.
SGPA is your grade point average for a single semester; CGPA is the cumulative average across all semesters completed so far. Every time a new semester's SGPA comes in, it updates your overall CGPA.
Here is a real semester example with five subjects:
| Subject | Grade Point | Credits | Grade Point × Credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 9 | 4 | 36 |
| Physics | 8 | 4 | 32 |
| Chemistry | 7 | 3 | 21 |
| English | 9 | 2 | 18 |
| Computer Science | 10 | 3 | 30 |
| Total | 16 | 137 |
CGPA = 137 ÷ 16 = 8.56. To convert this into a percentage with the standard formula, multiply by 9.5: 8.56 × 9.5 = 81.3%. If your university uses a different conversion rule, check the university table below.
There is no single conversion formula for every institution. Most Indian universities follow the UGC standard of multiplying by 9.5, but several universities use their own official formulas. These are the most commonly used ones:
| University / System | Conversion Formula | Example: 8.0 CGPA Equals |
|---|---|---|
| UGC Standard (most universities) | CGPA × 9.5 | 76% |
| VTU (Karnataka) | (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | 72.5% |
| Mumbai University | CGPA × 7.1 | 56.8% |
| Anna University | (CGPA × 10) − 0.5 | 79.5% |
Always confirm the exact formula in your university's official notification or academic regulations before using a converted percentage on an application, because universities occasionally revise their conversion rules.

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) measures performance in one single semester, while CGPA combines every semester completed so far. If a student scores an SGPA of 8.2 in semester one and 8.8 in semester two with equal credits, the CGPA after two semesters is simply the average: (8.2 + 8.8) ÷ 2 = 8.5. When semesters carry different total credits, each SGPA is weighted by its credits before averaging. In short: SGPA is the score of one term, CGPA is the running average of all terms, and CGPA is the number that finally appears on the degree. If you have semester results and want the combined figure, our guide on converting SGPA to CGPA walks through it step by step.
The conversion also works in reverse. To turn a percentage back into CGPA under the standard formula, divide the percentage by 9.5. For example, 76% ÷ 9.5 = 8.0 CGPA, and 85.5% ÷ 9.5 = 9.0 CGPA. This is useful when an application form asks for CGPA but your marksheet only shows percentage marks. Remember that the reverse conversion is exact only for institutions that use the × 9.5 rule; if your university uses its own formula from the table above, apply that formula in reverse instead.
